Position Summary
Kel Teck Ag Ltd is seeking a motivated Summer Agronomy Student who can work independently and unsupervisedwhile supporting agronomy operations during the growing season. This role provides hands-on experience in soil and plant testing, microbiology, fertility planning, plant health assessment, and data-driven agronomy, with a strong emphasis on mineral balance, calcium management, and nutrient synergism to drive maximum crop yields.
Key Responsibilities
- Work independently and unsupervised to complete assigned field and sampling tasks
- Conduct crop scouting and in-field assessments
- Assess plant health and identify disease, nutrient deficiencies, and stress symptoms
- Collect and prepare soil, plant tissue, sap, and microbiology samples for laboratory analysis
- Assist with soil microbiome testing and biological performance indicators
- Support agronomists in interpreting soil, tissue, sap, microbiological, and plant health data
- Develop an understanding of The Albrecht Method, including:
- Calcium’s role in soil structure
- Calcium-to-magnesium ratios in base saturation
- Mineral synergism and nutrient antagonism
- Assist with fertility planning through fertilizer programs, including rate, placement, and timing
- Support Earth Optics soil mapping and zone-based fertility decisions
- Use GPS-enabled equipment and agronomy data software for field mapping and data management
- Assist in evaluating crop response, yield results, and ROI from fertility investments
- Operate general farm equipment including tractors, sprayers, seeding, and tillage equipment (training provided)
- Perform general yard, shop, and field duties
- Maintain safe, organized, and professional work practices
Qualifications & Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed an Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, or related post-secondary program
- Strong interest in soil fertility, plant health, soil biology, and crop production
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Interest or experience with precision agriculture, GPS systems, or agronomy software is an asset
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
- Valid driver’s license required
- Willing and able to travel within Saskatchewan
- Ability to travel to the USA when required
- Driver’s abstract may be required
